SAFA Pays Tribute To The Late Godfrey Mosotho
06 November 2009

The South African Football Association regrets to announce the untimely passing of Godfrey Mosotho; a former  referee and member of the SAFA National Panel of Match Commissioners. Mosotho was a member of Mangaung Local Football Association under the Motheo District in the Free State. He served the province for a number of years in the capacity of Provincial Referees Secretary responsible for the appointment of referees to the SAFA Promotional League in the province.

SAFA CEO Raymond Hack described Mosotho as an astute talent scout who was responsible for identifying current National and International Referees such as Toko Malebo, Stephen Moshotle and Enock Molefe. “His presence at all SAFA Tournaments in the province was a sobering sight in that when he was around, one was sure that referees and refereeing matters were dealt with the necessary diligence and zeal,” added colleague Adeel Carelse.

As a past Chairman of the SAFA National Referees Committee's Examination Board, he was responsible for the academic development of all National Referees. Mosotho will be missed by the whole of the SAFA Structures for his excellent contribution towards the development of refereeing in the province and at a national level.

On behalf of the President and the National Executive Committee of the South African Football Association; we express our most sincere condolences to the family and football fraternity of the province of the Free State.
