Presidents Speech: SAFA Awards
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to the SAFA Awards 2009. These Awards mirror the activities of the South African Football Association, and they are created with a purpose to recognize excellence in various disciplines of the beautiful game played under the auspices of SAFA.
We also view the SAFA Awards Ladies and Gentlemen, as a culmination and celebration of many achievements and grand contributions made by individuals and institutions across the broad spectrum of our society.
As the National Executive Committee of SAFA we have pledged to be a caring Football Association, we have committed ourselves to run this sport diligently on behalf of the South African public, and it is our strategic intent to ensure a return on investment for corporates and institutions that invest in football.
We are on track to transform various aspects of our football, in order to keep up with the ever-changing trends of modern football.
The inception of the SAFA Awards last year have gone a long way in encouraging our players to play with passion and pride, our coaches to work harder at their game plans, match officials to officiate at the highest level, and our administrators to govern the game effectively and efficiently.
This year's Awards are a prelude to many interesting events ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in our beautiful country. On the 4th of December Cape Town will host the Final draw for next years' World Cup, and soon after the draw delegations from 31 countries will be visiting our host cities and stadiums, in preparation for their return in May or June 2010.
Let me take this opportunity to thank the football supporters countrywide for keeping the sport alive.
I wish you a pleasant evening.
Kirsten Nematandani
SAFA President
