The second edition of the Absa Women’s League National Championship kicks off just a month after our country has hosted a successful 2010 FIFA World Cup; and it also come at a time when South African women football has just made history. Our National under 17 Women’s team has qualified for the FIFA World Cup in September this year at Trinidad and Tobago.
The inception of the Absa Women’s League last year has played a pivotal role in unearthing a pool of talented players that were utilised by our coaches in our quest to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, and I’m delighted to say the return on investment is realised because the Absa Women League is pivotal in this achievement.
The Absa Women’s league inaugural National Championships were a great success in Tshwane, we saw spectacular goals and brilliant saves from all our teams. The tactics by coaches were spot on, hence the great excitement we witnessed during the tournament. I’m impressed by the life skills programs that are conducted during the tournament, and I applaud our sponsors Absa for pioneering the initiatives. |
