Women Referees
SAFA’s head of referees Carlos Henriques says Mitchell’s achievement is a culmination of hard work dating back to 2003. “Deidre was one of the fifty women who attended the National Women Workshop in 2003, she made it to the top ten and never looked back since then.” Said Henriques.
Born 23 December 1975, Mitchell made the FIFA panel in 2004 and later the PSL panel in 2005/2006. “ Her hard work propelled her to international level where she participated in the Women African Championships held in South Africa on September 2004 and the under 19 Women World Cup in Thailand later that year.” Added Henriques. Mitchell’s other achievements include attending a FIFA Women Workshop in January this year in Spain and officiating in DRC , Zimbabwe and Mozambique National teams.
SAFA is committed to the development of women referees in the country, twenty women attended a course at the University of North West Potchefstroom campus.
